Werling Santiago Tejada-Jimenez, of Reading, PA, was taken into custody after a joint investigation by the Passaic County Sheriff's Office and U.S. Postal Police led to a controlled delivery, Sheriff Thomas Adamo announced.
Investigators intercepted a suspicious parcel intended for a Paterson address and obtained a court-approved search warrant, Adamo said. The package was found to contain two kilograms of fentanyl, authorities said.
A controlled delivery was attempted on Tuesday, Feb. 11, but no one claimed the package, Adamo said. A second attempt was scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 19, at the U.S. Post Office in Paterson, Adamo said. Tejada-Jimenez arrived at the Ward Street post office, accepted the parcel, and tried to leave when he was detained by sheriff’s detectives and postal inspectors, authorities said.
“Drug dealers should not and will not be allowed to use public resources to facilitate their illegal activities,” Adamo said. “The Sheriff’s Office will aggressively work to stop the flow of illegal drugs into Passaic County.”
Tejada-Jimenez was charged with possession with intent to distribute fentanyl and intent to distribute fentanyl within 1,000 feet of Dale Avenue Elementary School, officials said.
